UC Hastings is home to a thriving international law community. From our home in diverse San Francisco, we have built strong ties with universities across East Asia and in global capitals worldwide. Through our outbound exchange program, UC Hastings students can experience a semester or year-long immersion in international law and culture. We welcome international students and practitioners to UC Hastings to earn an LL.M. in U.S. law, conduct research as a visiting scholar, and enrich the campus conversation on international issues like human rights, international trade, and the complex legal implications of globalization.

This one-year program is designed for foreign attorneys who want to expand their understanding of U.S. law. Candidates can pursue a general LL.M. degree or specialize in one of the following areas:

Every year we welcome foreign attorneys, legal scholars and judges to spend a semester or full academic year conducting research at UC Hastings. Visiting scholars collaborate with UC Hastings faculty and give presentations to UC Hastings students on topics like international trade law, international human rights law, comparative corporate tax or criminal law.

The program is designed for lawyers from both civil and common law traditions - providing a unique opportunity for both to come together to learn about and discuss important developments. The program is conveniently scheduled to follow the international programs of the ABA Annual Meeting. Topics covered will include intellectual property, environmental, land use, litigation and alternative dispute resolution, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, antitrust and consumer protection.
