Adjunct Professor Karen Carrera received her Juris Doctorate from Hastings College of the Law in 1992. She is a partner at Villegas Carrera, LLP (VC), a plaintiffs employment discrimination and class action law firm in San Francisco, specializing in representing low-wage workers and immigrants with employment discrimination and wage and hour law suits. Prior to VC, she was also the Director of Litigation at Legal Aid of Marin. Professor Carrera served as a Deputy City Attorney and litigator with the San Francisco City Attorney's Office, Code Enforcement Division, and was a supervising attorney at La Raza Centro Legal specializing in employment, landlord tenant, immigration and elder law. Professor Carrera currently serves on the board of Equal Rights Advocates, a civil rights organization in San Francisco, the Board of Directors of Canal Alliance, a non-profit organization serving and empowering youth and immigrants in Marin County, and the Board of Directors of the Consumers Attorneys of Marin.
Professor Carrera has served as a mediator for the San Francisco Superior Court Early Settlement Program and the Marin Superior Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Program.
Professor Carrera is a member of the California State Bar, Labor and Employment Law Section, and the California Employment Lawyer's Association.
In her free time, Professor Carrera enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons.
