UC Hastings awards both merit-based and need-based scholarships to help lower the cost of law school attendance. Merit-based awards are generally made upon acceptance, or soon thereafter. No additional forms are necessary to be considered for merit scholarships.
Need-based awards require the completion of a brief Financial Aid Supplement. You will need your LSAC account number in order to complete this form. You may fill out (and in fact you are encouraged) the Financial Aid Supplement before you receive a decision from UC Hastings. Doing so will expedite the notification of need-based aid eligibility if you are offered admission to the Class of 2018.
Students who enroll at UC Hastings should file the FAFSA as soon as possible after they pay the enrollment deposit. Information from the FAFSA is used to determine students' eligibility for federal loans, which can cover up to the full cost of attendance, including living expenses.
Costs for the 2014 -2015 academic year are as follows:
|Tuition & Fees||$44,186||$50,186|
Estimated Academic Year Living Expenses
|Books and Supplies||N/A||$1,150|
|Housing and Utilities||$1,565||$14,085|
Costs for the 2015 - 2016 academic year will be determined in the spring of 2015.
*UC SHIP (Student Health Insurance Program) coverage for UC Hastings students is mandatory. However entering students with proof of equivalent coverage can apply for a health insurance waiver. If the waiver is approved, the insurance charge will be reversed.
Students who take out U.S. Department of Education loans should be aware that the loan proceeds remitted to the student are net of loan orgination fees. Fee amounts vary depending on the size of the loan, but the Financial Aid Office generally estimates about $1,700 annually for students taking out both Direct Unsubsidized Loans and Direct PLUS Loans.
Tuition and fees are subject to change without notice as a result of further action by the UC Hastings Board of Directors, the California Legislature, and/or the California Governor's Office.
