The National Association for Law Placement (NALP) has enlisted UC Hastings Chancellor & Dean Frank H. Wu to join a new Strategic Advisory Group on the Changing Legal Profession.
The group is charged with thinking strategically about the many facets of the rapidly changing legal sector, with a particular focus on how issues may impact the organization and its members.
NALP’s membership includes virtually every ABA-approved law school in the US, Canadian law schools and hundreds of legal employers from both the public and private sectors. The organization is dedicated to continuously improving career counseling and planning, recruitment and retention, and the professional development of law students, lawyers, and its members.
“At this time of rapid change in the profession it is important to try to look ahead and anticipate the future,” said NALP Executive Director James G. Leipold. “Dean Wu, as one of the most thoughtful leaders in legal education, is ideally poised to help our organization ensure that we are prepared to meet the future."
The Advisory Group will perform environmental scanning and additional research as necessary, for instance by consulting industry experts, in order to stay abreast of trends in the legal marketplace that have the potential to radically impact NALP members and NALP as an organization.
By regularly identifying issues and providing the NALP Board of Directors with background information and identifying possible implications for NALP, this advisory group will play a critical role in ensuring that the Board is well-positioned to strategically and thoughtfully address emerging issues facing NALP and its member institutions.
