UC Hastings Editorial Director to Moderate Panel on Diversity, Inclusion

Dennis Archer, chair emeritus of Dickinson Wright and former ABA president (below); Paula Boggs, board director for Sterling Financial Corp.; and Linda Klein, managing shareholder of Baker Donelson’s Georgia offices will participate in a panel August 9 sponsored by the Law Practice Management section at this week's ABA annual meeting in San Francisco.

Dennis Archer, former president, American Bar Association“What Effective Law Firms Need to Know about Diversity and Inclusion” will analyze the trends, both legally and practically, in how the various schools of thought about diversity and inclusion have shifted, how the current state of the law has affected that shift and where future efforts are directing this area.

“Law firm leaders have unique concerns when it comes to diversity and inclusion in our profession,” said John E. Mitchell, chair of the Law Practice Management Section’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the sponsor of the panel. “Our job demands more than leading by example — it requires us to help develop and implement the law that guides the business world at large.

“While law firms have the same legal obligations as any other businesses, it is crucial that we lead, not follow, as we seek to implement new policies and practices to create inclusive environments, so we can attract and retain the talent required to serve our clients.”

The moderator is Susan Kostal, editorial director at the University of California Hastings College of the Law, in the Office of Communications and Public Affairs, and a longtime legal affairs journalist.
