Prof Hadar Aviram Joins Letter to Gov: Negotiate with Prison Hunger Strikers

Professor Hadar Aviram is among scores of scholars who have signed a letter asking Gov. Jerry Brown to listen to California inmates on a 53-day hunger strike and negotiate with them "before there is blood on your hands."

The open letter concludes, "We call upon the Governor and legislature to immediately sit down at the bargaining table with representatives of the current prison hunger strike and enter into meaningful negotiations before prisoners die or suffer irreparable damage to their health." Peter Keane, a longtime UC Hastings visiting professor, also signed the letter.

Aviram runs the California Correctional Crisis blog, which has more information on the subject.

Read the full letter, and more on California's prison overcrowding, here.
