Professor Joan C. Willliams, Emeritus Professor Joseph Grodin, Chancellor & Dean Frank H. Wu, Jennifer Keller '78, Elise Traynum '86, Fellow Brian Pascal, Cecilia Blackfield.

Joan C. Williams

Professor Joan C. Williams was interviewed by Forbes about her new book, What Works for Women at Work.
Joan C. WilliamsSays Williams: “Ninety-six percent of the women I talked to [for the book] reported to us about one or more patterns of gender bias. When I started out, gender bias shaped my career profoundly. I was astonished it was still out there.”

Her most provocative takeaway: “The idea among Baby Boomer women that the most effective way to counter ‘tightrope’ bias is to use what I call gender judo. You take feminine stereotypes and flip them around so they propel you forward instead of hold you back.” Read more from Forbes.

In a separate interview, Williams explained to Reuters how the focus on face time at the office hurts women’s pay. “Workplace norms cement felt truths that link long hours with manliness, moral stature, and elite status.” Read more here.

Joseph Grodin

Joseph GrodinProfessor Emeritus Joseph Grodin will be honored next month as one of three winners of the 2014 Peggy Browning Award, given to “social justice champions who have distinguished themselves with passion and dedication to the rights and needs of workers and their families.” Read more here.
