This January’s IP & Technology Career Fair was our 16th annual intellectual property-related law practice career fair. This year the Fair, co-hosted by the UC Hastings Office of Career and Professional Development, the Hastings Intellectual Property Association, and the Hastings Science and Technology Law Journal, brought attorneys and recruiters from over 30 law firms and in-house legal departments to our campus.

The first part of the Fair, the Panel, was moderated by IP recruiter Gary Davis of Patterson Davis Consulting. The following panelists gave UC Hastings students wonderful insights into life as a practicing attorney in various IP and Technology-related practice areas:

  • Holly Hogan, an associate at K&L Gates, discussed her path to, and role as, an IP litigator;
  • Michael Portnov, an associate at Fish & Richardson, informed the students about his patent prosecution practice; and
  • Jason Schneiderman, a partner at Perkins Coie, discussed his practice in start-up/emerging company law.

The second part of the Fair, the catered Table-Talk, allowed employers and UC Hastings students to meet and exchange information in an informal setting.

The UC Hastings Office of Career and Professional Development is proud to have co-hosted, for the 16th year in a row, this valuable informational event for the Hastings community. This year’s event had the participation of both large and regional law firms with stellar IP litigation, patent prosecution and tech transaction practices. Moreover, we expanded our representation of in-house legal departments, with EFI, Pandora, Solazyme, Inc, and Yahoo participating in the table-talk. The event garnered an enthusiastic response from both students and employers alike.

This year’s panel and catered table-talk reception was graciously sponsored by K&L Gates, Fish & Richardson, and Perkins Coie. The cost of printing handout materials from both UC Hastings and PattersonDavis Consulting was kindly sponsored by Kirkland & Ellis.
