UC Hastings Professor Ugo Mattei Inducted into European Law Institute

UC Hastings College of the Law Professor Ugo Mattei was recently elected as a member of the prestigious European Law Institute, which aims to improve the quality of European law in its broadest sense. The Institute was created in June 2011 to study and stimulate European legal development in a global context.

“Ugo Mattei is a leading legal intellectual, not just here in the United States but throughout Europe,” said UC Hastings Chancellor and Dean Frank H. Wu. “He has been a mainstay of our international law program for a generation.”

“I was honored to be chosen for election to this important new body,” said Professor Mattei. “For someone like me, who is not usually considered a mainstream jurist, this is an important recognition.”

Professor Mattei joined the faculty of UC Hastings in 1994 as the first holder of the Fromm Chair in International and Comparative Law. He has been a visiting scholar at a number of prestigious institutions both in the U.S. and abroad. He has published eighteen books and more than one hundred other publications in English, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, and Ukrainian. Professor Mattei teaches Comparative Law and Political Economy of Law.
