UC Hastings students Rebecca Palm, Soha Jafarzade and Ryan Tung were honored by the Bar Association of San Francisco for their outstanding volunteer service.

The bar’s Justice & Diversity Center awarded Palm, a 3L, its Community Service Award for her “exceptional commitment” to pro bono work. During her first year at UC Hastings, Palm began to volunteer with Homeless Legal Services (HLS), an innovative collaboration between JDC, UC Hastings and Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. Palm is on track to log more than 400 pro bono hours before she graduates this spring, an all-time record for student pro bono at UC Hastings.

Students Soha Jafarzade and Ryan Tung were also honored as being among the top 10 percent of JDC’s Pro Bono Legal Services Program volunteers.

Tung was honored for his role as Managing Director of HLS. Jafarzade, a 1L, was a frequent volunteer at JLS and will serve as co-president for the 2013-2014 academic year.

The trio was given Outstanding Volunteer in Public Service certificates at a celebration April 16, 2013 at UC Hastings College of the Law. More than 200 were on hand to congratulate the UC Hastings students and other dedicated volunteers.
