          UC Hastings Bar Takers Lunch

          Sample alt tag.
Message from Associate Academic Dean Heather M. Field

          Dear Bar Studiers,

I hope that your studies are going well. I write with two announcements.

          Announcement #1

For those of you taking the bar exam in Oakland this summer, I am delighted to announce that we will be on site to provide you with free lunch all three days of the bar. We received gracious donations from Chris Holland, ’92 of Keller, Sloan, Roman & Holland and from the firm Hartog & Baer from which we can provide lunch to you all three days of the exam in Oakland.

So, what’s the catch? There are two rules:

          1. You have to order in advance. Place your order by the end of the day on WEDNESDAY, JULY 10 by clicking here. We want to ensure that we have enough food and that you get what you request, so we are asking you to RSVP and select what sandwich you want for lunch each day. We will give those of you that reply more details about exactly where to meet us to get your lunch.
          2. No discussing the bar exam! I will be there along with other staff and faculty to cheer you on and pass out your boxed lunches. Since we expect a good number of you to show up all at the same time to grab your lunches, no one can discuss the exam. Note that there are a wide variety of places where you can actually eat; you’re welcome to grab lunch and go (we won’t be offended if you don’t want to hang out with us).

What about all the people taking the bar in locations other than Oakland? Believe me, I wish we could provide lunch for all UC Hastings grads taking the bar exam this summer. This is a new idea that we’re trying to implement, and the donations only enable us to serve one site. As between providing lunch to only some of you and providing lunch to none of you, I thought the providing lunch for some of you was the better choice. You know, from my email earlier this summer, that I’m a big proponent of planning lunch, and I wish we could this for all of you. Please know that, even if we’re not present to give you lunch and cheer you on in person, we will be thinking of you and wishing you well as you take the exam.

          Announcement #2

In case you’re interested, I pass along to you the following opportunity to receive a $100 Amazon.com gift card for participating in a study of July 2013 California bar exam takers. The study is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). No obligation, and no endorsement. But, I was asked if I’d be willing to share the survey invitation with you, and I thought some of you might be interested. The survey invitation is as follows:

I am a faculty member in the psychology department at the University of California, Riverside, and I'm conducting a study with people taking the California Bar Exam this July 2013. I would like to invite you to participate in this paid research study (participants can receive $100 to Amazon.com) that involves taking 10 online surveys starting one week prior to taking the exam and finishing up within a few days after receiving your exam results.

Anyone over the age of 18 and taking the bar exam this July is eligible to participate. If you're interested, please contact me at UCRLifeEventsLab@gmail.com to indicate your interest in participating or to get more information about the study. This study has been reviewed and approved by the UCR IRB.

Thank you in advance for your help, and please let me know if you have any questions!

          c/o Sara Andrews, Graduate Assistant

That’s all from me for now. As an aside, I have finally assumed my new role as Associate Academic Dean, and this is the first big email blast that I’m sending out to students/alums. I’m excited about my new role, and I want you to know that we’re still thinking of you even though you’ve graduated.

Keep up the hard work! We believe in you!

          Warm regards,
          HMF
