"Onward and Upward: Breaking Through Gender Barriers in Law and Tech," hosted by the UC Hastings Women’s Law Journal, will feature House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi as its keynote speaker on Oct. 18. The event is free and open to the public.

The Symposium highlights the experiences of women in the workforce, and what strategies are available to overcome obstacles and close the gender gap. It will examine the role modern women have in leadership and positions of power, and specifically the advancements still needed to promote a gender inclusive work place. After the keynote address by House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi at 9:00am, there will be three panels during the day-long event. The first covers women’s experiences in the law; the second reflects on the female perspective in the tech sector; and the third highlights policy developments in the Bay Area and resources for women leaders. Following the program, there will be a Wine and Cheese Reception.

Although the Symposium is free and open to the public, seating is limited in the Alumni Reception Center in Mary Kay Kane Hall so please register in advance.

UC Hastings is proud to feature Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, as the keynote speaker for this event. Representative Pelosi and other House Democrats recently introduced "When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families," an agenda addressing economic challenges women and families face today. The Symposium will feature an array of panelists to provide a comprehensive overview of the different types of work places women encounter in the Bay Area, including law firms, tech, start-ups, politics, etc., and the specific challenges they face in each one. The Symposium will also examine current efforts to break down gender barriers and what women and men can do to challenge and change persistent inequalities in the work place.
