UC Hastings Faculty in the News: Professors Obasogie, Williams, and Dean Wu

A regular feature of the UC Hastings Engaged Scholarship Blog highlighting recent media hits, citations and quotes.

Professor ObasogieOsagie K. Obasogie

Professor Osagie K. Obasogie has had a busy week opining on a variety of his areas of expertise and research. On Sept. 30, he published an article in the Boston Review on the Myriad decision and its broad implications for property issues concerning the body. Oct. 4, he published a Commentary in the Scientific American about the Nobel Prize winner “who fathered in vitro fertilization.” Last week, MacArthur Genius Grant recipient Ramón Gutiérrez said Obasogie’s work on how the blind perceive race was “most interesting research that [he’s] come across lately.” That same research was spotlighted on GPB News and KPCC.

Professor WilliamsJoan C. Williams

Professor Joan C. Williams has been described as a “rock star” among WorkLife advocates, and that was certainly obvious this week. The Financial Review detailed her theories on how to make job-sharing work. The American Prospect quoted her work on paternity leave in California, noting that a growing number of fathers are taking advantage of paid parental leave. Autostraddle featured a short video of Williams discussing gender bias, which also includes a mention of UC Hastings Professor Shauna Marshall as well.

Dean WuFrank H. Wu

Finally, Chancellor & Dean Frank H. Wu has published several blog posts and been quoted in several news outlets about the crisis in legal education and the challenges of collecting and presenting accurate data in law school reporting and where law schools get their money.
