McAllister Street UC Hastings Campus Streetscape Project Update

Sample alt tag.
Phasing Strategy, from Attachment 3 of the SFCTA Resolution.

We’d like to take this opportunity to update you on the McAllister Street UC Hastings Campus Streetscape Project.

The project furthers the Strategic Plan objective of improving campus identity and is based on the recommendations of the Tenderloin-Little Saigon Neighborhood Transportation Study (2007). We extend our appreciation to Supervisor Jane Kim, representing District 6, and our neighbors and community partners for their support in making this happen.

On April 22, the Board of the County Transportation Authority approved $1 million in additional funding to expand the scope of the project to include the north side of both blocks of McAllister between Leavenworth and Larkin Streets. With this augmentation, funding from the City and County of San Francisco now totals $1.8 million. UC Hastings is contributing $640,000 for this effort:

  • $39,000 Planning & Conceptual (2009-10)
  • $515,000 Deferred Maintenance – Sidewalk Replacement McAllister Tower (2013-14)
  • $86,000 Hastings match for $1,045,000 in City funding (2014-15)

The project involves pedestrian safety and lighting improvements, sidewalk widening, tree planting and other enhancements. The replacement of sidewalks contiguous to McAllister Tower is necessary to remediate long standing water infiltration problems. The addition of lighting along the frontage of College property along McAllister Street will increase security.

Work is scheduled to begin in late Summer 2014 and is expected to take approximetly 6 months to complete. Please contact me if you have any questions.
