Paul is a partner at Barnes & Thornburg, LLP in its Los Angeles office and a member of the firm’s Finance, Insolvency and Restructuring Department. He heads the Creditors’ Rights practice in Los Angeles.
He is experienced in representing lenders in real estate and asset-based financing, media and entertainment companies, as well as individuals, in the assertion and defense of their commercial rights in state, federal, and bankruptcy courts. Paul has experience in virtually all phases of the business litigation process, including mediation, pre-judgment provisional remedies, complex law and motion, trial and arbitration and bankruptcy proceedings. He also possesses significant appellate experience, having appeared and argued before the Ninth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel and Ninth Circuit on numerous occasions. His successful cases in the area of Ponzi Scheme bankruptcy litigation have resulted in published precedent regarding bankruptcy trustee standards of disinterestedness and disclosure of potential adverse interests.
Paul is a member of the Judicial Appointments Committee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, responsible for making recommendations to the Governor of the California on prospective appointments to the California Superior Court in Los Angeles County. He is also a member of the Financial Lawyers Conference, and the American Bankruptcy Institute. He is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in California.
Paul earned his J.D. from the University of California – Hastings College of Law. He earned his B.A. from the University of California– Berkeley where he majored in English.
