The Wireless Network extends to most student study areas. Any student with a notebook computer with 802.11b or 802.11g Wireless Networking (either through a plug-in card, or built-in) can connect to the Hastings network and get access to email and the Internet. 802.11N has been installed in all classrooms on campus.
In October, 2008, we completed the installation of a new SecureHastings connection to the wireless network (198 and 200 McAllister buildings.) In July 2009 we installed the SecureHastings connection to the wireless network in the Tower Dorm, 100 McAllister. This means that students will be able to set up their laptop computers (and other mobile devices) to use WPA (or WPA2) Enterprise for automatic login. No longer will students have to type their login information each time they want to connect to the wireless network.
The HastingsGuest wireless network is provided for all visitors of the UC Hastings College of the Law campus for wireless Internet. Upon access to the HastingsGuest wireless network the client will have to accept the UC Hastings Acceptable Use Policy.
The hastingsplay wireless network is for personal wireless devices (Xbox360/XboxOne, PS4/PS3, Apple Tv, Roku, Smart TVs, WiiU, etc.) that cannot connect to the SecureHastings wireless network. To access the hastingsplay wireless network email firstname.lastname@example.org. You will need to be a student/staff/faculty/tenant of UC Hastings College of the Law to be granted access. If you have a chromecast you will need your chromecast and your controlling device to both be connected to hastingsplay to communicate together. If you have an apple TV and would like to use apple TV display mirroring that apple tv and the mirroring device will need to be on hastingsplay.
Two methods will work on the wireless network hastingsplay for wireless printing from client computers and devices to personal wireless printers. Apple products can use wireless printers that have AirPrint wireless printing. Windows computers can use wireless printers that have wireless direct or sometimes named wifi direct for wireless printing. To setup the AirPrint method you will need to send a request to email@example.com asking for airplay printing access. AirPrint printing requires that both the printer and the printing device be connected to the hastingsplay wireless network.
