          NoVo Foundation Gives Refugee Center $150,000 to Aid Women, Girls

          The NoVo Foundation has awarded $150,000 in grants over three years to support the work of the UC Hastings Center for Gender & Refugee Studies (CGRS).

          CGRS protects the fundamental human rights of refugee women, children, LGBT individuals, and others who flee persecution in their home countries. The Center provides legal expertise and training; engages in impact litigation, policy development, and research; undertakes in-country fact-finding; and uses international human rights tools to address the root causes of gender-based persecution.

          "We depend on the generosity of funders such as the NoVo Foundation to help refugees who have fled violence in their home countries. With the assistance of our supporters, we are able to positively impact the decisions in individual cases, while engaging in national initiatives that allow us to influence the development of the law,” said director Karen Musalo.

          The NoVo Foundation has invested in CGRS since 2010. The funding will provide core support for the Center’s work to combat gender-based violence and assist its survivors.
