Japanese Corporate Governance Conference: "Capital Markets and the Law in Japan: Legal Reforms & Corporate Governance"

          UC Hastings College of the Law partnered with the Japan Society of Northern California (JSNC) and the Pacific Pension Institute (PPI) to present a conference about Japanese corporate governance October 18, 2013. More than 120 people attended the day-long event.

          The conference will took place at UC Hastings. Keynote speakers included Professor Hideki Kanda of the University of Tokyo and Professor Bruce Aronson of Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo. The panelists were comprised of representatives from Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Morgan Stanley, White & Case LLP, and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, among other organizations; Professors Eric Sibbitt, Jodi Short, and Abraham Cable of UC Hastings participated as discussants.

          “This conference was a wonderful opportunity for anyone with interest in corporate law, capital markets, or Japanese law,” said UC Hastings Professor Setsuo Miyazawa. “Students had the opportunity to meet lawyers from leading corporations, law firms, and other conference participants.”
