          Anita Hill Witness Professor Joel Paul Leads Talk Following Anita Screening

          A principal witness for Hill during the Senate hearings in 1991, Paul corroborated her story of discrimination while working under Clarence Thomas at the EEOC. He will speak about his experience at the film opening.

          The film ANITA will premiere on Sunday, March 23, at the Embarcadero Cinemas in San Francisco.

          UC Hastings Professor Joel Paul, who was a principal witness for Anita Hill during her Senate testimony in 1991, will offer remarks after screenings at 2:30pm and again at 5pm.

          Against a backdrop of sex, politics, and race, ANITA reveals the extraordinary story of a woman who spoke truth to power. The film is both a celebration of Anita Hill’s legacy and a rare glimpse into her private life with friends and family, many of whom were by her side on that fateful day 22 years ago. Anita Hill courageously speaks openly and intimately for the first time about her experiences that led her to testify before the Senate and the obstacles she faced in simply telling the truth. She also candidly discusses what happened to her life and work in the years since.

          An entire country watched transfixed as a poised, striking African-American woman in a blue dress sat before a Senate committee of 14 white men and with a clear, unwavering voice recounted the repeated acts of sexual harassment she had endured while working with U.S. Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas. That October day in 1991 Anita Hill, a bookish law professor from Oklahoma, was thrust onto the world stage and instantly became a celebrated, hated, venerated, and divisive figure.

          Just past the 22 year anniversary, Academy Award winning filmmaker Freida Mock revisits one of the most controversial watershed events of the past century, the Anita Hill – Clarence Thomas Hearings, the weekend of shocking television that made Anita Hill a household name and smashed the door open on the issues of sexual harassment and gender equality.
