Three alumni are recognized among the nation’s best rising attorneys.

Andrew Houston ’07, Bari Williams ’08, and Kasheica McKinney ’08 were recognized as three of the nation’s most promising lawyers when selected as recipients of the National Bar Associations 40 under 40 Nation’s Best Advocates awards.

The awards acknowledge the country’s leading legal professionals under the age of 40 who exemplify excellence in innovation, vision, leadership, and legal and community involvement. The National Bar Association (NBA) is the nation’s oldest and largest national network of predominantly African-American attorneys and judges.

“I'm honored and humbled that the National Bar Association recognized my work and what I bring to the profession. It means a lot coming from an association that is full of top notch lawyers, legends, and people I aspire to emulate,” said Williams, who currently serves as Counsel for Global Infrastructure and Operations at Facebook.

An independent panel sifted through a large group of nominees to select the 40 awardees. These recipients represent a variety of legal professionals including big firm attorneys, solo and industry practitioners, government lawyers, judges, academics, corporate counsels, young elected officials, and other lawyers, all of whom are using law to positively impact their communities.

“I feel so honored to be recognized by a wonderful organization such as the National Bar Association,” said Houston, who works as an Attorney for San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). “In a broad sense, the award shows me that young African-American lawyers are still able, in 2015, to honor and carry forth the National Bar Association's 90-year legacy of promoting a more equal and just world.”

The awards will be presented at the National Bar Association’s 40 Under 40 Awards Luncheon on Thursday, July 23, 2015 during the organization’s 90th Annual Convention in Los Angeles, CA.

“We’re thrilled to recognize these active and highly motivated leaders in their excellence and commitment to their chosen fields. Ultimately, their continued success benefits greatly the communities in which they reside and the entire legal field,” said Pamela Meanes, President of the National Bar Association.
