JOE GRODIN, EMERITUS PROFESSOR OF LAW

University of California Hastings College of the Law is planning a Tribute event for former California Supreme Court Associate Justice and long-time UC Hastings Professor Joseph Grodin on Thursday, November 12, 2015, from 5:30-7:00 p.m.

The timing of the Tribute marks Professor Grodin’s 85th birthday year, the publication of the latest edition of his book on California Constitutional law, and his more than 55 years as a professor and scholar at UC Hastings.

Professor Grodin first taught as an adjunct at UC Hastings in the late 1950s and initially became a fulltime faculty member in 1972. During the 1970s, he also served as a member of the first Agricultural Labor Relations Board and as foreperson of the Alameda County Grand Jury. Governor Jerry Brown appointed him to the California Court of Appeal in 1979 and to the California Supreme Court in 1982. As a jurist, he authored or joined in many significant and enduring opinions. Professor Grodin returned to the UC Hastings faculty in the late 1980s and now teaches part-time as a distinguished emeritus professor of law.

We would like your help in making this Tribute a truly celebratory event.

UC Hastings intends to establish a special fund in Professor Grodin’s name to support social justice educational programming at the College. In addition, as part of the Tribute, there will be a short film on Professor Grodin's life and his distinguished career and work in the law. The film will be shown at the Tribute and placed on the UC Hastings Website. Well-respected and recent Peabody Award winner Abby Ginzberg will be the producer. For any person, law firm or other entity giving $1,000 or more (Benefactor), you will be listed in the film credits as being a supporter. Those giving $2,500 or more (Host) will be separately and prominently noted in a special category in the film listing. We also have other categories of donations: $500 (Patron), $250 (Sponsor) and $100 (Friend). All donations of $100 or more will be listed in the Tribute Program material.

Please click here to RSVP and/or show your support.
