Working with COMMS
The Office of Communications & Public Affairs is a nimble little crew, composed of three hard-working, fun-loving, somewhat nosy, and forever thirsty professionals (2.5 FTE). While all three of us share the aims above and are involved with every facet of the activities, each has our own primary areas of activity:
Director Alex A.G. Shapiro is primarily responsible for the website, social media, schoolwide campaigns (e.g. streetpole banners), internal & crisis communications, media relations, email marketing, and supporting the development and success of the other COMMS staff (as well as staff with marketing roles in other departments). He also serves as the official spokesperson for the school when applicable. His content focus is institutional, including leadership, plans, projects and initiatives, and programmatic. Best reached by email, email@example.com. For media inquiries or emergencies, please call (415) 813-9214.
Editorial Director Jessica Kraft is primarily responsible for the award-winning UC Hastings Magazine and the online Newsroom. She researches, writes and assigns stories of alumni, student and faculty achievement, and edits all copy. “Keeping up with UC Hastings news provides broad exposure to local, national and international issues,” says Kraft. She can be reached by email:firstname.lastname@example.org.
Senior Communications Writer Ami Dodson is primarily responsible for “Making Faculty Famous," the Engaged Scholarship blog, and the twitter handle @uchscholar. She’s adept with every tool in the COMMS toolbox (online and print) and is especially interested in stories about faculty research, scholarship, and clinical work that may serve to demonstrate thought leadership and engagement with policy and legal affairs. She is in the office Wednesdays, Thursdays, and every other Friday. Best reached by email, email@example.com.
