Jill is General Counsel to KCAP Financial, Inc, a publicly traded middle market investment business that finances and manages a portfolio of term loans, mezzanine investments and selected equity securities, as well as a portfolio company that manages collateralized loan obligation funds, which invest in broadly syndicated loans, high-yield bonds and other credit instruments. The funds have approximately $3.4 billion of assets under management.
Prior to joining KCAP, Jill worked at American Express, advising AMEX Ventures on minority investments in tech startups in the financial services and payments sectors. She currently serves on the board of several startups, providing legal and operational strategy and helping them wisely scale. She lectures at General Assembly and for the Kauffman Foundation on Lean Customer Development.
Jill developed her passion for growing businesses while serving as North America General Counsel at CEMEX; she was part of the team that helped the company transform from a regional Mexican player into a publicly traded global conglomerate. Prior to that, she served as a first chair litigator in the Sex Crimes Unit at the Manhattan DA’s Office.
Jill’s academic credentials include a Fulbright Scholarship in international business and law (Mexico), a J.D. from U.C. Hastings College of the law (where she served as Senior Articles Editor for the Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly and was a finalist in the national Scribes competition for her scholarly writing), and she received her B.A cum laude in American History and Literature from Harvard University. She is proud to serve on the Executive Committee of the U.C. Hastings Board of Governors. She is also on the board of Praxis Housing Initiatives, a non-profit that provides transitional housing and social services to the chronically homeless.
Jill is an avid traveler, but she calls Brooklyn home; she resides in Park Slope with her husband and two daughters.
