Time: Ceremony starts promptly at 3:00 pm.
Location: Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, 99 Grove St, San Francisco, CA 94102
To Bring: Cap, Gown, Hood, Name Card (latter to be carried on stage with you so we can project your name on screen as you cross the stage).
How long is the ceremony?
Approximately 2 hours. The ceremony is expected to end around 5:00pm. There will be a light reception immediately following the ceremony on Grove Street.
What time should graduates arrive at the Bill Graham?
Graduates must arrive at the Bill Graham no later than 2:15 pm. They will then check in and line up to process into the hall.
Do tickets cost anything?
No. Tickets to Commencement are free, but must have already been requested on the graduate survey. The link to the survey and log in instructions were sent by email to all graduates. If you did not fill out the graduate survey and wish to attend Commencement, contact firstname.lastname@example.org ASAP.
How many tickets may I request?
You should have requested the amount of tickets needed on the graduate survey and picked them up at Regalia Distribution. If you still need tickets or have more than you need, contact email@example.com. We will try to accomodate your request for tickets if space allows.
Do all my guests need tickets?
Generally, yes, every guest must have a ticket. However, children under age 4 who can sit on a guest’s lap and graduates participating in the ceremony do not need a ticket.
What time should my guests arrive?
Doors open at 2:00 pm for general seating. There is no reserved seating. If you requested accommodations for your guests with disabilities on the graduate survey, the special seating instructions will be included with your early access tickets. Guests with special seating passes must arrive at 1:30 pm. There is no special seating once general seating begins at 2:00 pm.
Where can I buy flowers or leis for my graduate?
Violette + Amarilla will be manning a flower stand for all guests and graduates to purchase leis, bouquets, and cards on Grove Street in Front of the Bill Graham, from 11 am to 4:30 pm. You may place a pre-order with them at http://foreignspell.com/violette-amarilla, or choose something the day of.
Where can I buy UC Hastings gear or merchandise?
There will be a stand on Grove Street selling shirts, mugs, padfolios, and other merchandise if you would like to purchase any.
Attention: All day Sunday there will be no BART trains running between Fruitvale and Coliseum stations for maintenance work. BART will provide a free bus bridge. Visit bart.gov for more info. Please allow extra time if you are taking BART.
The Bill Graham is located about 2 blocks from UC Hastings' campus, so the UC Hastings garage is an option for parking. Public Transportation is also an option. Click here for more information.
Will there be a place to leave guests’ strollers, walkers, etc. during the event?
Yes, there will be a “Stroller Check” area at the venue. Strollers, walkers, wheelchairs, etc., that would be in the way during the ceremony may be checked.
Where do I go after the ceremony?
Walk out onto Grove Street for a light reception. Invite your guests to join you!
The Pre-Ceremony Hooding event will take place before the Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 10, from 12:55 to 1:55 pm on the 2nd floor of the 200 Building (Dining Commons and Dobbs Atrium). Check-in will be in the lobby on the 1st floor.
This is an opportunity to have a professor or a loved one place the doctoral hood on you signifying your achievement of Juris Doctor. Bring a camera to capture this celebratory moment. There will be other faculty and staff available if you would like help taking the picture.
All graduates and their families are invited to participate, even if you indicated in the graduate survey that you were not going to attend. This event is optional and there is no obligation to participate.

If you are bringing the person with you who will perform the hooding, you can participate at any of the above stations after checking in. If you would like a particular professor to hood you who is not on the list, you are encouraged to contact him or her directly and arrange to meet at a hooding station.
